YouTube has allowed many more filmmakers to get their stories to market than even before. Here is a small selection of science fiction films that can be found on the site.
Enjoy!

R’Ha
- Directed by Kaleb Lechowski
- August 6, 2016
A civil war is raging in a distant solar system.
In a plot reminiscent of the Battlestar Galactica reboot, military machines have rebelled against their creators and now seek to exterminate them in order to achieve independence. One of the alien creatures is captured and interrogated by the machines.
R’Ha is a very nice-looking film but offers nothing too special. The ending I felt was a little predictable, but it is a beautiful looking film. You could see where this was going long before it got there. Sometimes that can be okay so long as you finish satisfied but I did not get that here. I left feeling “That’s it?”
In the end R’Ha is nice to look at but nothing too impressive.

One-Minute Time Machine
- Directed by Devon Avery
- July 8, 2015
James pushes a red button and tries again and again to win over the lovely Regina each time he fails, all the while ignorant of the consequences of his actions.
One-Minute Time Machine is a silly little short film. Once you get past having some guy this stupid that can build a time machine you’ll enjoy yourself. Our hero is using his power of time travel to get a girl. I don’t think there is a more guy thing than that.
It’s a short and humorous jaunt. The revelation at the end about what is actually happening to him and his reaction is classic and how the tables turn is perfect. In five minutes or so they tell a complete tale and get in a great twist. I cannot complain about One-Minute Time Machine at all. It’s funny, it’s humorous and it’s tightly made. I definitely say check this one out!

C600
- Written and Directed by Blake Ridder
- June 20, 2020
Agent Logan is sent to investigate a malfunctioning C600 and finds something unexpected.
C600 is an interesting little short but it lacks a clear beginning, Middle, and end. It feels like the first part of a story and not a complete story. And a comment in the ‘Comments Section’ by the film’s creator makes it clear that this is indeed the first part of a larger story.
Short films should be like short stories and be a complete narrative but this barely does that. You can always have a sequel but there should be a beginning, middle, and end in the film. Here we have what is largely a beginning and nothing more.
I think you could probably call it not great but not necessarily terrible. It has some good ideas and has good direction but beyond that it doesn’t leave you wanting more despite unanswered questions.

There is no shortage of what creators have produced out there on YouTube. Some of it is good and some of it is not. I certainly suggest you search through on your own because there is more good than bad out there and I guarantee you’ll find something you will enjoy.
