Crocodile Fury

  • Directed by Godfrey Ho
  • August 15, 1988 (China)
  • Uses re-edited footage from Kraithong 2 (1985)

A witch vampire invades with her vampires to destroy everything that exists on earth and begins working with Cooper, the master of the seas. Feel free to laugh because it does sound silly.

Some bad movies are bad because the people behind them aren’t trying at all. Some movies are bad because no matter how hard the people behind it try it just never gets to being good. But some people seem to have made bad movies that become watchable and enjoyable because that is their goal. Godfrey Ho is one of those very special people.

I can certainly say that watching Crocodile Fury was a unique experience as are all Godfrey Ho ‘movies’. It is bad dubbing and cheap looking crocodiles and extremely low production values in a re-purposed foreign film. Supreme Schlockmeister Ho who ‘directed’ this didn’t use his real name in the credits. Gives you an idea of the quality you are in for in comparison to other Ho films if he is adverse to letting the viewer know his involvement.

Try to follow along because the plot is a jumble. There are demonic crocodiles attacking a village. The crocodiles are also spirits of humans. One of the crocodiles is the spirit of the girlfriend of one of the protectors of the village. Names are unimportant. If he kills himself he can be with her, but he wants her to stop doing crocodile things. Women…

While the evil begins with crocodiles it transitions into evil vampires. I guess that’s an oxymoron. Then everybody’s concerned about the Seaworld Empire. And then the evil witch makes a come back in the story and because a whole bunch of vampires got killed she sends more of them after the village.

I’m pretty sure the evil witch character of Monica was inserted footage. But she’s also heavily dubbed so I’m not sure where the trademark Godfrey Ho additions are. The question that always lingers in a Godfrey Ho movie is how much of the plot of what he rips apart makes it into his version of the movie. I have absolutely no idea here.

There is some weird humor that would be bad even for Saturday morning cartoons of the 70s. You’re left with a feeling that much of the dubbing was done on the fly. There are other things. You will believe a crocodile can roar! That ranks right up there with Jaws: The Revenge. Then there’s the talking crocodile. This is some very strange stuff.

The characters keep tossing around ‘Seaworld’ and ‘Seaworld Empire’. In the context of the movie this is a reference to whatever the plot is by the villains. If you can figure the exact plan out please message me. I could never quite determine it. Also every time they said ‘Seaworld’ I laughed. I just got this image of an evil Shamu.

This is filmed chaos as only Godfrey Ho could give. The voiceover work is awful. The story is confusing and nonsensical. It’s put together like an inexperienced child might. Yet with the magic touch of Godfrey Ho, it is watchable. Not great or Academy Award winning but the awful nature of it is engrossing. It magically crosses from bad to good because it’s so bad.

Crocodile Fury is certainly not a movie for everybody. You must enjoy bad films that try to be good. This tried just that and somehow managed to succeed even though it actually doesn’t if that makes any sense.
