The Predator Holiday Special

  • Directed by David H. Brooks and Alex Kramer
  • December 19, 2018

The Predator comes to Earth and faces off against Santa and his elves.

The Predator Holiday Special is a two-minute short meant to promote the soft reboot The Predator. In execution it is a combination of the Predator concept and the stop motion animation specials of old. And in that execution it finds parody magic.

This is the kind of Christmas send up that really works. It pokes fun at the silliness of not one but two concepts in a way that any fan would appreciate. It is not done in a hateful way or with a mean spirit but rather is done with it a like of the material. I like the older specials and generally enjoy the Predator films to one extent or another but get just how silly either can be. And that is where this is coming from.

Fans of the original film will see the homages to it in this and you could even take the scene at the end as an homage to AvsP or just an additional bit of silliness pulled from the trademarked library of Fox films. I loved this so much to this day I want a feature length edition. Two minutes is not enough.

The Predator Holiday Special is a nice little bit of one-off video that will give you a laugh and kind of make you want something full length at the same time. Check it out!

Holiday Baking Championship-SNL

  • December 22, 2019

Contestants on a baking competition show unveil their holiday themed creations to the judges.

You don’t get much better than Eddie Murphy. The man stands out as one of the great performers in the long history of Saturday Night Live. He knew and apparently still does now know how to handle sketch comedy in a way that few performers on the series have. And he turns his mistakes (keep an eye and ear out for when he accidentally swears here) into good comedy.

The humor hinges on the inversion of reality-or it just gets tossed out the window. The short moves from the judges having positive sounding feedback on the clearly disastrous cakes and indifference to the one good cake to Murphy’s cake coming to life and powered by a demon from Hell.

This goes for the laugh. No message to be found. Pure, unadulterated silliness from start to finish.

Holiday Baking Championship-SNL is a great bit of comedy featuring on of the SNL greats. Most definitely watch!

How the Sith Stole Christmas

  • Geek Out
  • December 12, 2019

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, an evil Sith Lord sought to take Christmas away…

This is not the 2002 film (which seems to be M.I.A. on the Internet these days) but is a good substitute.

This How the Grinch Stole Christmas parody manages to merge Star Wars with the classic story and uses Star Wars lore with a voice over that follows the rhythm of the language used in the original. And that is what sells this creation.

How the Sith Stole Christmas is a witty little short that will make you laugh. There are in jokes involving not only Star Wars as a whole but also the original Grinch story. The animation is pretty good for an essentially free presentation.

While watching this there was something about it that reminded me of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special. I’m not just talking about it being Star Wars at Christmas. It was something a little more than that and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

If you get a chance give this a look. It’s entertaining and will give you a smile.
